Me & Petrie

My name is Avens. I am currently based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. I moved in June (2010) from Boston, MA to Venice Beach, Los Angeles, California, and in January 2012 decided to stop commuting 300 miles to work, so the move to LV was pertinent. I travel a lot, however, and lots of places feel like home (or perhaps none), so I'm a wanderer by most accurate definition. I am an animal lover, music lover, dork, and former Army Brat. I'm a student of many things - philosophy, theology, politics, sociology, communication - officially a student of Behavioral Sciences, which is what my completely useless BA is in. :)

I'm an extrovert & a Libra. I dig writing, talking, communicating in general, as well as posing for photographers, training small parrots, teaching people about Druidism, playing devil's advocate, and third party politics.

I was raised neo-pagan by a Celtic Reconstructionist Druid (mother) and a Wiccan (dad). I called myself a Druid for years and have a significant store of Celtic knowledge, but also study Norse, Hellenic and Indian (not Native American) traditions. I also dabble with interest in the traditions of Jews, Catholics, Buddhists and whatever wanders into my life and looks interesting. At the end of the day, however, I seek the answers to life in science, and question everything. I claim no specific religious affiliation anymore, and have far more issues with religion than I do faith in any.

I served as Vice Chair of the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire from 2006-2008. I would attempt to describe myself as a small-l libertarian and tend to lean left in national politics, but I become increasingly sick of politics with every passing year. I'm pro-choice and pro-gun, primarily, everything else is a conversation I'll probably end up having with you eventually, and the position I'll take at that moment will be the one opposite yours.

Other key points: I'm wicked optimistic. I was homeschooled. I'm a dork who likes sci-fi movies, comic books, and HTML.
